Only one year after her reported stay in a drug rehabilitation clinic, pop diva Whitney Houston has checked herself back into rehab.
Although it was never made clear where Houston, 41, sought treatment or when she first entered the program, it has been confirmed by her publicist that she did enter a rehab facility.
"Whitney Houston has reentered a facility for rehabilitation," the singer’s publicist, Nancy Seltzer said in a brief statement Wednesday.
After a string of cancelled appearances and strange behavior, Houston checked into a drug rehab centre in March of 2004.
This year has already gotten off to a turbulent start for the star, who was rushed to a hospital in February when she became ill from food poisoning on a flight to France. In January, she was cited by police after rear-ending a city bus with her sports car near her Atlanta-area home.
In an interview with Diane Sawyer that was broadcast on the American Station ABC in 2002, Houston admitted to using alcohol, marijuana, cocaine and prescription drugs. She also said that a spiritual advisor was helping her to stop using drugs.
Houston’s battle with drugs became public in 2000, when she was detained at Hawaii's Keahole-Kona International Airport for possession of 15 grams of marijuana and two partially smoked joints. The misdemeanor drug possession charges that had been filed against her were dropped when a substance-abuse counselor said she did not need treatment.
The singer’s husband, Bobby Brown, has his own history of run-ins with the law. These include battery charges after a domestic dispute with Houston in December 2003 and a probation violation for drunken driving in February 2004.
It was reported by MTV that Houston has been working with music-industry legend Clive Davis on a new album.
Our Thoughts
We hope that Whitney Houston can find the strength to finally overcome her problems with drugs, once and for all.
